Dear Parents,
It is with great enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction to you as the principal of KC Academy. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school in such a family-oriented community. In order to build rapport with you, our lovely parents, I would like to share a bit of information about myself.
I grew up in Denver, Colorado at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in the United States. Here I graduated with honors receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in primary education, with a minor emphasis in literacy development from Regis University. I have always been an avid and active world traveler, visiting over 25 gorgeous countries worldwide; and have aspired to be a teacher since age seven when asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Before I decided to settle down in Asia, I previously taught children within low-income and under-resourced schools in the countries of Mexico, Costa Rica, and Brazil where I fell in love with teaching diverse student populations, and working with English language learners. During my studies and my travels, I became a fluent Spanish speaker and have a bit of French and Portuguese under my belt as well, so therefore I understand the uniquely sensitive process our language learning students experience when removed from their comfort zones and placed within an unknown environment.
I have now been working as an educator here in Nha Trang for the past five years. While living in Vietnam, I earned my Master’s Degree in foreign language acquisition and education from St. Thomas University, in the United States. I have advanced my professional position from that of a classroom teacher, to the Head Teacher, to an Academic Director, Campus Director, and now I am settling into my role as the Principal of KC Academy. While I love the responsibility and challenge that comes with my role as an administrator, my favorite aspect of education is working as a homeroom teacher and witnessing my students’ exponential growth over the course of a school year! I am incredibly passionate, creative, caring and love to have fun; however, I am also very organized, quite firm and have high expectations for each and every student I come across. Our students know that I challenge them because I care about them, and I comprehend their true potential.
I am truly honored to work within the Kid Castle International School system. I have assisted in creating the most professional international school in Nha Trang, where we genuinely value education, to every extent of the word. Here at KC Academy we focus heavily on character and social development, independent and practical life skills, embracing our cultural differences and of course increasing students’ overall academic achievement. We use current data and modern teaching methodologies to design our curriculum and educational philosophies. We pride ourselves on constantly adapting and improving to meet the needs of our KC Academy families. Without a doubt, this school year will be an exciting one, full of challenging and enriching opportunities for all of our students!
In closing, please know that my door is always open to you. I whole heartily welcome your conversation and positive input throughout this year. Let us always keep our students as the primary focus of our work. I look forward to celebrating our collective successes during the 2019/2020 school year.
Ms. Cara Darling, Principal, KC Academy
